Please find the attached Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), so that private family doctors can participate in the process of referring patients from the community to private Emergency Care. There is also the presentation given during online meeting with family doctors by the team involved.
This process, which will be launched on the 24th of March 2025, will allow a doctor included in the permanent register of the Malta Medical Council, to direct a patient, to receive emergency care within a private hospital. Such process requires that the doctor calls the 1400 call centre. Thereafter the call center will guide the Family Medicine Practitioner to which facility the patient will be referred to. Such decision will take into consideration the waiting times of the various facilities.
Attached you will find the Standard Operating Procedure that needs to be used when such a service is being considered. It is essential that any referral abides to the inclusion and exclusion criteria so as to ensure patient safety.
