Continuing Medical Education

Continuing professional development (CPD) and evidence-based practice are recognised as essential pillars in the specialty of family medicine. It is for this reason that the College organises various education activities during the year and also accredits other activities organised by other entities.

At the end of each year, a member fills in a personal electronic CPD folder were all events attended, both passive (audience/participant) and active (speaker/educator) are listed, including the event already accredited by the CPD officer, but also online CPD, conferences abroad, and other activities such as writing an article, or being a speaker at an event. This folder is accepted by the registrar once a year, and these entries are checked and points allocated for unaccredited events.

College members must accumulate 27 CPD units annually to retain the status of membership. Of these 27 units, at least one third, that is 9 units, must be obtained as passive learning during CPD activities organised directly by the College in any one year.
