Trainees in Family Medicine

Trainees in Family Medicine

History and Information on the Specialist Training Programme is available here: https://deputyprimeminister.gov.mt/en/phc/stpfm/Pages/Specialist-Training-Programme-Family-Medicine/stpfm.aspx

On successful completion of the training program for Specialists in Family Medicine, and on successfully completing the associated Work-based Assessment and the Summative Assessment, a Family Medicine trainee is recommended by the Malta College of Family Doctors (MCFD) for the Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST), issued by the Specialist Accreditation Committee (SAC).

Once receiving and registering such CCST certificate with the Medical Council, the Specialist in Family Medicine is included in the Register of Medical Specialists.  Continued registration is subject to the annual registration fees requested by the Medical Council.

Subsequently, the Specialist in Family Medicine can enrol as a Full Member of the MCFD to be able to utilise the Membership of the MCFD (MMCFD) title and appellation.

The MCFD subsequently recommends the Specialist to the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) for the award of Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners (International) (MRCGP(Int)).

Both the MMCFD and the MRCGP(Int) are, as their name implies, linked to continued membership of the respective Colleges, and the respective certificates remain the property of the respective Colleges, and can be withdrawn should any supporting condition, including continued membership, cease to apply.
