New Memory Clinic at SVP Geriatric Day Hospital

Dear Colleague:

A new memory clinic is to be launched early next year at SVP Geriatric Day Hospital. The purpose of this memory clinic at present is to streamline and enhance the current memory services and tests available in Malta in diagnosing Dementia and other memory disorders. Patients with suspected memory issues, especially in the early stages, would be ideal candidates for referral to said clinic.

To this end, GPs who refer clients with suspected memory issues are kindly requested to sent a normal ticket of referral to General Geriatrics, and quote a GPCOG score. The GPCOG is a recommended tool for GPs to screen for memory issues, and is quicker (and more simple) to perform than an MMSE. It is also the recommended tool for GPs to use by European Authorities. I’m forwarding a link hereunder of how to perform a GPCOG should anyone wish to see a demonstration: https://youtu.be/If7nv2_B89M?feature=shared

We would greatly appreciate cooperation in this project in order to enhance the memory clinic service. Thanking you in advance!

NB You may see on CPORTAL a referral directly to SVP Memory Clinic – that is currently not working and referrals will be redirected.

Thanks again and best wishes,
