Dear Colleagues,

We are proud to present you the final version of the 2023  Revision of the Definition of General Practice/Family Medicine. The attached document was unanimously approved by the representatives of all Member Organizations present at the last WONCA Europe Council meeting held in Brussels, Belgium on 6 June 2023. The decision ended the almost year-long process commenced in 2022 during the previous Council meeting in London, UK, when the special commission was appointed to lead a revision procedure. Literature search, numerous meetings and consultations with the participation of all WONCA Europe Networks and representatives of Member Organizations allowed us to conclude the task successfully.

The 2023 revision focuses on relatively new but critically important challenges for GPs related to One Health, Planetary Health and the Sustainable Development Goals. According to the provisions of the amended Definition, these areas together form a bedrock for the functioning and development of General Practice/Family Medicine.

The updated document received also a new, attractive layout. So, please promote it and distribute it among your members as widely as possible. The file can be also downloaded from the WONCA Europe website.
