In accordance with article 9 (6) (a) (iv) of the Drugs (Control) Regulations (S.L. 31.18) and 8. (6) (a) (iv) of the Internal Control o f Dangerous Drugs Rules (S.L. 101.02) when urgent prescriptions are issued to a patient who is not in possession of a control card, the prescriber needs to label the prescription as urgent, the amount does not exceed seven days supply and the prescriber notifies the Superintendent within forty-eight hours of issuing such prescription, giving full particulars of the patient, the name, form, dose and amount of drug prescribed, and the reason for the urgency. To date such notification was via email on sph.health@gov.mt.
