Improving patient awareness about need for Diabetes foot screening and footcare education

Dear Doctor,
I am Phyllis Camilleri, a Podiatrist by Profession, with a special interest and 36 year experience working in the field of Diabetes footcare within the Diabetes and Endocrine unit in Mater Dei Hospital.
Currently I am forming part of a working group on management of the High Risk Foot. As a team we discussed communicating with the Malta College for Family Doctors on the possibility of requesting  for your help in disseminating an awareness campaign regarding the need for Diabetic Foot Screening and patient (and carers) education to prevent complications.
Attached please find relevant posters in Maltese and English and an introductory letter to explain our motive.
Later on, we also plan to issue a pathway to inform about current and proposed management of patients having high risk foot conditions. Although intended mainly for those who have Diabetes, it does not exclude ones with other conditions such as Congenital Insensitivity to Pain and Peripheral Vascular Disease. However, we will communicate further about this at a later stage.
With regards to the poster, we have purposefully left it open for patients to get in touch with a podiatrist of their choice be it in public service or otherwise as the aim is mainly to raise awareness about the need for screening.
Any feedback from your side would be appreciated as this will help us in achieving our goal to the best of our resources.

 Kind regards

Phyllis Camilleri
