Dear member:
The Malta Country Report 2022 issued by the European Commission is available here: 2022-european-semester-country-report-malta_en
The report makes an interesting read – health is in Annex 14.
Of note are:
– the stable 1.3% of GDP spent on preventive health;
– unmet health needs are low despite increasing economic disparities ;
– out-of-pocket expenditure remains among the highest in the EU;
– the strategic importance of affordable medicines;
– the projected increase of 2.6% in GDP spent on public health expenditure till 2070 with a focus on a Tissue and Cell bank, new technology and digitalisation; and
– Healthcare remains at the fulcrum of Malta’s high risk of financial unsustainability long-term.
