Disposal of Expired/Unwanted Pharmaceuticals/Medicines

Dear member

As you are aware a number of patients have hoarded medication over time.  The following can be forwarded to patients who seek such advice from you.

Any expired/unwanted pharmaceuticals or other medicines may be disposed of at an authorised pharmacy or in any of the Civic Amenity Sites around Malta and Gozo.  Collection of pharmaceutical waste from bins provided to pharmacies is part of an EU-funded project – https://www.wsm.com.mt/en/article?id=2455dc2f-6d20-4d7d-91bb-85b41c1cba5a

Before medicines are disposed, all packaging, information leaflets, and any plastic caps, cups or spoons are to be removed and disposed of in the grey/green bag. Empty glass medicine bottles can be disposed of with the glass fraction. Tablet and capsule packaging, as well as cosmetic items can be disposed of in the black bag.

An online guide book which might be useful containing detailed information related to waste separation is found here – https://www.wsm.com.mt/en/waste-separation-guide

For further information contact Wasteserv through their customer care on: info.ws@wsm.com.mt .
